I'll start with a story. Quite a while ago, I created a newsletter, knowing how crucial it is to stay in touch with the people who need my help, but I never sent out a single email.
Why? The whole thing just seemed too daunting. I was never entirely sure what I wanted to say, and since I’m not the kind of person who does something without at least attempting to understand the bigger picture, I did nothing. I kept working along doing business as usual (copy editing for some amazing clients), all the while knowing that I was crippling myself by not communicating more, and that I was hurting the people who needed my help by not giving them a meaningful way to connect with me. In short, I was stuck.
Around the same time, I began focusing my attention on figuring out where to go next in my business. While I loved (and still love) copy editing, I had this gut feeling I could be doing more to help people. I just had no idea how. But after many months (and classes, conversations, scribbled ideas, lightbulb moments, and even a few tears), I had a simple realization. I can help people (particularly creative entrepreneurs, though not exclusively*) solve the same problem I had been having.
I believe that when you sound like you (when writing and talking), know what you want to share (your core message), and follow a flexible process each time you sit down to create, you end up with content (blog posts, social media updates, website content, emails, books, and more) that creates a meaningful connection with the people who need your distinct combination of wisdom, knowledge, strengths, experiences, and passions.
* While I talk specifically about helping creative entrepreneurs, I know that many of you likely don’t fall into that category. But I believe we all have something to learn from each other in friendships, relationships, work situations, mentor relationships, and more. I truly believe that sharing from a place of authenticity can help you make a difference in someone’s world, so you may find that my thoughts resonate with you even if you don’t own a business.
So what does this all mean? I'm glad you asked! (Okay, okay, I'm glad I asked for you.)
1. I'm currently refining two flexible processes you can use to create meaningful content on an ongoing basis. In the first, you’ll get to the heart of your voice and your core message, and get tools to help you use both confidently and consistently. And in the second, you’ll learn how to organize your ideas and then write, polish, and publish those ideas, again confidently and consistently.
2. I’m continuing to work with some incredible copy editing clients. You can read a bit more about copy editing here (I’m planning to add a lot more information soon), and if you have questions or there's a project you’d like to discuss, please reach out!
3. I'll keep you updated about what's going on both here on the blog and by email (see the sidebar to sign up). At some point the emails will shift into a regular series, but I’ll let you know when that will happen and what to expect before making the shift.
