From no big deal to a very big deal

My new guide, Stay Unstuck, started small—as so many good things do.

For years, I worked as a copy editor and then a content coach. And along the way, I offered lots of ideas about ways to get unstuck when a client was facing writer’s block or some other issue that kept them from moving forward.

Eventually, I realized that I’d built up a pretty solid bank of ideas about getting unstuck. So I thought, Oh, I’ll turn these into a little guide for people who work on creative projects, especially those that are writing-based. No big deal.

But (as I’m sure you can guess by how these kinds of stories usually turn out), it was actually a really big deal.

As I began pulling together all these tactics for getting unstuck and writing about why it’s so important to use them, I realized how often I wasn’t using them.

And that gave me pause.

How could I possibly help you make the most of these ideas when I wasn’t making the most of them—and I was the one who’d been carefully writing them down over the years?

If I didn’t stand a chance, where did that leave you?

That’s when I realized that no matter how good we are at giving advice to others when they need it, we’re often terrible at giving advice to ourselves at the most critical moments.

I’ve given advice to countless numbers of people about how to get unstuck, and it was incredibly humbling to realize that I was struggling to take my own advice.

When I figured it out, I knew that Stay Unstuck needed to be much more than just a list of tactics. I had to find a way to help you (and me!) use these ideas over and over, to make them an intimate part of our life and process. And that meant that turning to them had to be as simple as possible.

So I got serious. I stopped thinking of this as a little guide to help every now and then and started to think about how this guide could change the way we approach creative projects in the first place.

If we know we're prepared for whatever internal roadblocks might come our way, we're more likely to take on creative projects and less likely to procrastinate on decision-making. And that's the way I want to live and work.

I get really excited when I think about where I could be six months from now, a year from now, five years from now—if I truly take my own advice to heart and make these tactics a part of my life.

So now that I've put the guide out there for you, it's time to get down to work. I’m going to start at the beginning and do the entire Stay Unstuck process myself, all the way to the end.

I’ve done this kind of work over the years, but I've mostly sort of stumbled into doing it as the need arose. But in creating Stay Unstuck, I put together all the pieces in a step-by-step process, and I can't wait to use it.

I can already tell how powerful it’s going to be for me to have a guide to lean on, so I can simply focus on getting my own solid stay unstuck process in place.

So what about you? Are you ready to dive in and prepare for the inevitability of messiness and roadblocks in your creative projects?

Stay Unstuck: A Guide to Awareness and Action is here to help.

First, you’ll work through creating a powerful list of tactics to use when you get stuck—because while you may have of lots of ideas to share when someone else needs help, I'm guessing that when you're the one who's stuck, all those ideas seem to disappear. Don’t put yourself in that tough position; plan ahead for the inevitability of needing these ideas.

And then you’ll work through a four-part process that will help you more quickly and easily recognize when you’re stuck, and then turn to your tactics—so you can get moving again.

Plus you’ll learn how to keep your lists current and top of mind, so you don’t slide back into old patterns (the worst feeling after you’ve done so much work to make a change, right?!).

All if this is available for you right now, for $59!

I just started, and it’s like you’ve read my mind when it comes to feeling stuck. I can’t wait to dig in more!

P.S. On Thursday, I'm sharing an excerpt from the guide, one that'll show you exactly how it looks to use it.

But I'm only sending it to my email crew. If you want in, sign up below! You'll get fairly regular emails from me, as well as immediate access to a library full of resources to help you as you work on creative projects and more.
